Hi all,
I want to use the SSL in ArcGIS Server 10.1.
Refer to this article:
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Enabling_SSL_on_ArcGIS_Server_when_accesse...
For my understanding is that I can use the self-signed certificate before I get the formal SSL certificate, am I right?
If so, I follow the steps but the 'https' couldn't work.

Another thing is in the article it says

Log in to the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory: http://[host name]:6080/arcgis/admin.
Navigate to machines > [machine name] > sslcertificates.
Click generate.

I am wondering what will happen after I click the 'generate' buttom.
Because nothing happened after I click the 'generate' buttom.
Is that right?
Hope someone can help me through this.

Best,
Sherry

If you haven't fixed it yourself yet - it might be worth retrying with Firefox. I've had issues when using Internet Explorer, possibly due to security policy. Otherwise you will have to provide more information about the exact steps you are taking. And is there anything in the server logs?

Hello,

Did you find a solution? I am curious because I am researching ArcGIS Server security. My organization is will be using either arcGIS Server authentication or web authentication. Any advice will be appreciated!

"Generate" will generate a Certificate Signing Request for you to send to a CA to have the default certificate "authenticated" with a real trust chain. When you installed Server, by default, a self-signed certificate was provisioned. Have you enabled HTTP and HTTPS on your Arc GIS Server? If so, you should be able to hit

https://[host name]:6443/arcgis/admin

However, if you're going through the trouble to ssl-enable an ArcGIS Site, I'd consider using a Web Adaptor in front of it, as well as upgrading to 10.3 or higher.
