Field Maps Viewer Access?

I am the administrator of an Enterprise server (11.5) for my company. I just created a viewer account which I have the credentials to. I created a web map on my admin account and populated it with two layers that I want my viewer to be able to see. The viewer can see the map and the layers when I try to access them via the online Enterprise portal, but when they go to field maps, the layers fail to load. Everything works as expected for my Admin account. I don't understand how a layer could be shared in such a way that it is available through online but not field maps. These are both feature layers which I have used extensively. The eventual plan is to use group sharing but right now they are shared to the organization to make sure the viewer can get to them.

Either I don't understand what a viewer can and can't see (and I can't find any literature saying that they should not be able to view a layer in field maps that is visible to them online), or there is a permissions issue, which seems not possible to me because the layers are shared at the organization level.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

The Viewer user type should be able to view shared web maps and feature layers, so based on your description, I wouldn't expect simply sharing the layers to the organisation to be the problem.

The first thing I'd verify is whether the issue occurs with a very simple test map containing only a single hosted feature layer shared to the organisation. If that works in Field Maps, then the problem is likely related to one of the layers, forms, or other dependencies in the production map rather than the Viewer account itself.

I'd also recommend checking the Portal and ArcGIS Server logs while opening the map in Field Maps as the Viewer user. The logs should show a more specific error message, which can help toa narrow down the issue.

One other useful test would be assigning a temporary Mobile Worker user and opening the same map. If the Mobile Worker account can load the layers successfully, that would point toward a user-type or Field Maps compatibility issue rather than content sharing.

Thank you for the response! I do not have any Mobile worker licenses in my organization, but I have tried Creator, both with and without adjusting the relevant user role, and not been successful. Interestingly, if I increase the role to administrator with a professional plus license, it *Does* work. But I don't know if that suggests a permissions issue, or a license issue.

The map I am currently testing in has one layer package with 3 layers in it, and the basemap. I have verified both that the map and the layers are shared with the organization.

I haven't looked at the logs yet, but that is next on my list.

Did you turn on the "Use in ArcGIS Field Maps Mobile" option in settings?
