Anyone created custom interface for the add data gui for desktop users.  Say we have multiple enterprise database connections and we'd like to marry all of the connections and create more of a checklist of possible feature classes that can be added to ArcMap?
Thanks for any advice/discussion.

I may be misunderstanding your intentions but I dislike the idea of a GUI that combines the varies SDE connections' feature classes into one grouped list.  I have one set of connections for my read-only user, another set for data edits, and other of my admin connections and it is important for me to keep these seperated.  Now if I could make groups or folders of varies SDE connections that would be great.

Now things I would like to see is a GUI similar to the open documents in MS Word 2010.  A left panel that shows my favorite locations and a catalog tree.  The ability to change the filter on the datatype and even geometry type. I do like the ability to create new folders and GDB however, I would like that to be expanded to create new simple FCs too.  I would like to use the Windows 7 Libraries.  A search tool would also be welcomed.

I do understand your perspective of disliking the idea of combining database connections. In our case, we do not create a lot of data, but rather have a direct connection into the county's database for a lot of our base data layers.  With more than 70 desktop users that aren't necessarily GIS savvy people... they just want to add centerlines or street lights to their map - they don't need to know which SDE connection it's from.
There are only a handful of users that will connect with edit permissions and have the ability to browse thru databases to find the data they need.  So yes, primarily these folks will have a read only connection set up.  The more I talk and think about it, maybe the catalog type answer I'm looking for is a combination of AGS/AGO.
Thanks for playing along!
