Hi all,

I would like to ask If you have come accros a simimilar issue regarding changing the ArcGIS Server service account password using the ESRI Configure ArcGIS Server Account utility in windows start menu. The problem I'm having is that when I try to set new password I get an error. "Invalid password specified for arcgis" as show in picture below. I have found this ESRI post that is giving a different method to change the password althou I¸m not sure If it is the correct way of doing this. I have not try using the comandline version of this utility as of yet.

Hi @MarianHaluska, it looks like the service account you're updating a is a local account.  First, go to the server's Computer Manager by searching for Computer Management in the windows search bar.  Within there, navigate to Local Users and Groups > Users folder.  Right-click the arcgis username > Set Password:

After you set the password here, try executing the ArcGIS Server Account utility again.

@JakeSkinner  Yes that was the problem, I contacted our local support as well and we concluded the same.  I had to firstly: change the password on the exsting user account (yes it is a local account) and secondly: run the utility to configure ArcGIS Server service account. After those 2 steps and service restart it all seems to be working as it shoud.

 Thank you.

Hey @MarianHaluska

The link you sent is a completely valid way to change the service account password, the service account is generally made as a local account on each server in the deployment. The Configure ArcGIS Server Account feature is generally not used for changing passwords, but rather changing the entire account that would be associated with the server account. I recently changed the password within the last month through the link you had mentioned, I would just be sure to make this change through all of your environment for consistency.

You will need to ensure you follow this note here specifically as well, or your Server account may not work until done:
