Idea: an option under the right-click menu when clicking on a FeatureClass in Catalog to view ALL services published from the FeatureClass. And then optionally, to stop/restart them.
We all know the pain of figuring out what services are locking a layer in SDE. I could stop my whole Site after hours but I am loathe to do that because 1) I'm at a new agency 2) sometimes stuff that was running doesn't start again. Seen it.
The other direction would be nice, too. A way to list all FCs in a service. (by true SDE featureclass names not whatever is in REST)
Also would be handy to stop/start services from Model for that FC. In fact, would be handy, just icing on the cake, to have a way to print these diagrams out for viewing, just like a ModelBuilder model.
I actually posted this Idea a decade ago but couldn't find it. Still relevant.
I also know there is the 'Schema Locking enabled' checkbox. However I talked to some senior SDE folks at UC. The basic suggestion was... don't mess with it. Sure you can change schemas while services are running but if edits happen or other things, it could shred the layer. I don't want to chance it, unless there is a resilient, battle-tested and official supported way of dealing with conflicts (like with versioning) that allows for review of differences and merging/reverting etc, if that ended up happening.
