ArcGIS Enterprise Sharing

Hello,

In the context of ArcGIS Enterprise, what does 'Everyone (Public)' mean?  Does this copy/post data out to the AGOL side of the house or does data stay put in on-prem in Enterprise.  Thank you.

It stays put in your Enterprise but it will expose access to anyone who has the ability to get to it. As an example, if I have a web app that I'm hosting on my server (so it has a URL on our domain) and I set the sharing to Public, then anyone regardless of their organization login will be able to hit that URL and see the map.

As Zach says if you publish an item as public then anyone can view it without needing to login to your Enterprise or to an AGOL account (it is the same process in AGOL). If the data needs to be kept private or on an organizational basis then you will need to set up accounts for everyone that needs to access it. I find most of what we share does not have privacy constraints so I am able to keep the need for accounts manageable. Note that all the layers in a map or app need to have the same permissions or people will get the login popup.

There is a key consideration here. 

if your enterprise is on your intranet only, then everyone means everyone on your network or who has the ability to VPN.

if your enterprise is on the internet then everyone in the world can see it.  

No copying it means direct access to your resources in situ.

BTW if you want to copy to AGOL then look at distributed collaborations.
