I am upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise from 10.8.1 to 11.1, and am at the final software component (Data Store), in a multi-machine environment. Cannot figure out why I am getting the error message:

"Attempt to configure data store failed. Caused by: Could not configure ArcGIS Data Store. ArcGIS Data Store and ArcGIS Server must be the same release version."

I have upgraded each machine to ArcGIS Portal 11.1, ArcGIS Server 11.1.

If you have a highly-available system, please upgrade all Datastores in your deployment before trying to configure.

You can run the describdatastore cmd to ensure you have the right software version too:

https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/data-store/latest/install/windows/data-store-utility-reference.htm#...

My describedatastore is showing version 11.1.0.42869.

There are quite a few points to consider when upgrading a multi-machine deployment. Please ensure you've considered all of them: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/data-store/latest/install/windows/upgrading-an-earlier-version-of-a...

"We've boosted the Anti-Mass Spectrometer to 105 percent. Bit of a gamble, but we need the extra resolution."

Yes Sir, I attached it to the original post (Describedatastore_result.png).

Your screenshots show that you have not upgraded the DataStore software yet.  You will need to upgrade that software to 11.1 before you can configure it with your upgraded Portal and Hosting Sever

Mr. Jenkins, please see the attached screenshot from the Data Store hosting machine (installed programs).

Now I'm really confused.  The first screenshot showed Datastore at 10.8.1 and Server at 11.1.  This new screenshot shows the reverse - Datastore at 11.1 and Server at 10.8.1.

Yes, 10.8.1 are relicts left on each machine from the initial install (in 2021). I don't know why though, myself, as I just got hired here last year, but will ask ESRI soon on a call. It seems to me that only the install Enterprise component should be on each machine (in a multi-machine install).

Oh I see now.  It is never easy to interpret the reasoning of someone else when they don't leave documentation.   I'm sure Esri will be able to help.  I would start by verifying which servers are performing which roles and remove any software, especially previous versions, that is not actually being used on each server.  Then diagram and document your installation configuration.

Let us know your solution when you find it.   Good luck!

We finally completed the Enterprise upgrade. For unknown reasons, the ArcGIS Server component would not fully upgrade properly, so we uninstalled/reinstalled it. But, prior, we saved the 'config-store' and 'directories' folders within the 'arcgisserver' directory contents to another location, deleted any files within the backup consisting of ".site", "wlog", "rlog", and replaced the contents following the install, but prior to the ArcGIS Server configuration. This saved all of our map services that existed in 10.8.1.

All we could figure for the reason each server had all Enterprise components from 10.8.1, was possibly the initial installation was from the ArcGIS Enterprise Builder (for a single machine deployment).

Thanks!

Very happy to hear you worked through it.  Esri tech support is usually really good, if not great.  Thanks for the follow up.
