Currently, when publishing Catalog Datasets as web layers to ArcGIS Enterprise, filtering options in the Web Viewer are very limited. Unlike Mosaic Datasets, where a dynamic Definition Query can be applied, Catalog Dataset layers lack this capability.
Current Limitations
- No dynamic Definition Query: Users cannot filter the entire Catalog Dataset web layer dynamically in the Web Viewer.
- No selectable pre-defined Definition Query: Even if a Definition Query is pre-configured in ArcGIS Pro before publishing, it cannot be switched on/off or modified in the Web Viewer.
- Applied filters are fixed: If a Definition Query is set before publishing, it remains active, but users cannot disable it, switch to another filter, or define their own query after publication.
- Filters only hide footprints, not the underlying data: When a filter is applied, it only removes the footprints from the display but does not exclude the associated raster data. This can lead to unexpected behavior, as hidden items may still contribute to analysis or visualization.
Suggested Enhancement
- Allow users to apply dynamic filtering (Definition Queries) on Catalog Dataset web layers within the ArcGIS Enterprise Web Viewer.
- Support the selection and modification of pre-configured Definition Queries after publishing.
- Ensure flexibility similar to that of Mosaic Datasets, enabling better control and interaction with Catalog Dataset layers in the web environment.
This improvement would greatly enhance usability for Catalog Datasets in web applications and provide more control over how data is visualized and queried.
