Since Survey123 ‘Multiline text’ questions allow line breaks (by pressing the ‘Enter’/’Return’ key), it would be great if it was possible to make the line breaks appear when viewing the survey response in other applications, for example, the ‘List’ element of a Dashboard. It would make it much easier to read long responses that contain line breaks, especially when users enter their responses as bulleted or numbered lists. We have a number of units within our organization using Survey123 to collect information. The use cases can range from aiding in developing strategic policy to gathering operational highlights. Oftentimes, users need to provide a large amount of information in a concise format. Whether it’s a timeline of events or a bulleted list, the information is much easier to parse when formatted in the same manner that it was written
Consider the following example:
- I have a survey containing a multiline text question.

- If you view the survey response in Survey123’s ‘Data’ tab, it is evident that the line break has been saved as part of the response.

- However, if you add a ‘List’ element to a Dashboard and choose the question as the List’s “Line item template”, the line break is not maintained.
