Currently, when an ArcGIS Notebook is published as a Web Tool, it can only be executed within ArcGIS web clients such as Map Viewer and Experience Builder. There is no supported method to run these tools from ArcGIS Pro.

This is a significant limitation for organisations that work primarily in ArcGIS Pro as their desktop GIS environment. Our workflows involve running geoprocessing and analytical tasks from within ArcGIS Pro, and we would like to be able to call Notebook-based Web Tools in the same way we can call other geoprocessing services — directly from the Geoprocessing pane or via the Python window.

The enhancement we are requesting: Allow Notebooks published as Web Tools to be discoverable and executable from ArcGIS Pro, in the same way that standard geoprocessing services hosted on ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online can be accessed.

Business value:

  • Keeps workflows within a single, familiar desktop environment
  • Reduces the need to switch between Pro and a web browser to run analytical tools
  • Enables Notebook Web Tools to be chained with other geoprocessing tasks in ModelBuilder or Python scripts within Pro
  • Makes Notebook-based tools a viable alternative to traditional geoprocessing services for desktop users

We believe this would significantly improve the utility of the Notebooks platform and encourage broader adoption across teams who are desktop-first in their GIS work.
