We request the implementation of a role-based privilege that allows users to share content with groups they are not members of.
Background:
In large organizations, it's often necessary to share items across departments while restricting visibility from the broader organization. Currently, this is only possible if:
- The content owner is a member of both groups, or
- A custom built-in group is created that includes all users from both departments.
Challenges:
- In larger enterprise environments, group membership is typically managed via Active Directory (AD). This makes group membership adjustments (option 1) infeasible.
- Maintaining cross-departmental groups manually (option 2) is error-prone and very resource-intensive.
Proposed Solution:
Introduce a configurable privilege that can be assigned to roles, enabling users to share content with any group — even if they are not members. This would streamline cross-departmental collaboration and align ArcGIS Enterprise with its positioning as a true collaboration platform.
