Portal for ArcGIS Location Tracking Template

This document details the steps to create a Location Tracking service in Portal for ArcGIS.  A location tracking service gives the ability to track where your collectors go when working in the field.

1.  Download the attached LocationTrackingTemplate.mpk.

2.  Double-click the .mpk to open it ArcMap

3.  Copy the LocationTracking feature class to an Enterprise Geodatabase

4.  Ensure that Editor Tracking is enabled for the feature class

5.  Set the data source of the MXD to the LocationTracking feature class in the Enterprise Geodatabase

6.  Publish the MXD to ArcGIS Server as a Feature Service

      a.  Configure the feature service with Create, Query, and optionally Sync capabilities.  Sync is only required if you plan to use the Location Tracking service with offline       editing.

      b.  To be able to populate the editor tracking fields with your field crew members you will need to enable token security on your service and add the correct roles. To learn       more about editor tracking go here.

7.  Connect to your portal and sign in with that account you will use to publish the collector map.

8.  Add the Location Tracking feature service to your content by clicking on Add Item and choose From the web.

9.  Log into the ArcGIS Portal Directory by going to https://<portalurl>/<webadaptor>/sharing.  Ex:

      https://server1.esri.com/portal/sharing

10. Click Community > Users > enter the username > Search Users:

11. Click on the username that's returned

12. Scroll to the bottom and click 'User Content'

13. Click the LocationTracking service under Items:

14. Scroll to the bottom and click 'Update Item'

15. For 'Type Keywords' enter the following:

ArcGIS Server, Collector, Data, Feature Access, Feature Service, Location Tracking, Service

16. Scroll to the bottom and click 'Update Item'

17. Return to your portal and add the LocationTracking service to a web map

18. Save the web map then go to the map details and click Edit.  You will have the option to enable location tracking for the web map.
