License manager on VMware

We would like to put our license manager on virtual machine.

Esri does not officially support virtual machine for license manager but it does work in many places.

We would like to know what will happen if we take the virtual machine from hardware server A and put it on hardware server B.

Will the license work? Do we have to do any setting on the virtual machine that will enable such operation?

The big advantage of virtual machine is that they do not depend on hardware but the license manager does depend on the hardware.

Because the Esri License Manager infrastructure uses Flexera FlexNet Publisher's Trusted Storage, rather than  earlier license file based authorization, the binding details for the Trusted Storage cache are fragile and will break when VM hosting the license server is moved.

Attached are the relevant pages from current 11.13 Flexnet Publisher license administrators guide.

Through the 11.13 releases FlexNet Publisher support for virtualized server environments only supports license file model.

Simply put, Esri bought in to Flexera's claims for Trusted Storage, but Esri has not worked out how to support increasing common requirement of supporting customers with virtualized license servers by reimplementing license file/certificate model for the ArcGIS 10.x line.
