I have a new Windows 8 desk top computer.  I'm having some difficulty getting ArcGIS Desktop to run on it.  Has anyone else had a similar problem?  What were some of the steps taken to solve the problem.  Could this have to do with Windows 8 being 64 bit and ArcGIS being 32 bit?  Is there a 64 bit version that I should look for?

There are no 64 bit versions of ArcGIS Desktop, not yet. What is the difficulty you are facing? Is it while installing or is it while using?

You can use "Can you run it?" to check if your system has suitable configuration, can be found here.

Also what is the version of ArcGIS  that you are trying to use with Windows 8? By any chance is it a .NET framework issue??

David,

What version of ArcGIS for Desktop are you attempting to install?

Esri support for Windows 8 was not introduced until ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 sp1--it will work but you have to take care of more of the configuration.

Also, you will require .NET 3.5 SP1 to be activated on your Windows 8 instance.

I got everything working.  Sorry that I never responded to the several people who were trying to help.

By the way Jason, I like your graphic.  I felt like breaking my computer several times while figuring it out.  Now that I have everything working.  I'm a lot calmer.
