Sort a Serial Chart Grouped by Values Date as Category Field

I have seen a few similar posts on Community and also found this ESRI workaround. How To: Sort the ArcGIS Dashboards Serial Chart Category by a Custom Order
It would be nice for the date to sort in sequential order, but it doesn't. So, I had to use this work around, the sort option only lets you use fields used in serial chart (was going to use the normal date field, and sort by the sort date field I created with Python. I can use the date sort field, but it's a huge pain to code in the dates to appear in MM/DD/YYYY format on the Category axis labels. This seems like a no brainer for the dates as a category to sort by order.
Am I missing something? I am using dashboards in enterprise 11.3. Is this fixed in current version or plans to add it?
