We're having the same problem with our fire incident dashboard. I've added two date pickers; one called preset date range, and one called custom date range. I put "Set preset date range to all years" as the hint on the custom one, but that's harder to use compared to the way it was before since they have to read the hint. This change may have made it easier to maintain the date picker on the backend, but it's definitely not a better solution for end users...
