I have a client asking for BI / infographic tool use case built on esri tech. Charting is hit and miss across the various products (broadly inconsistent on lacks enough options) but when I looked at what can be done in BA it really fit the bill better than say ExB on its own. I then tried to use my data in BA and ExB, but it is designed to run reports from a 'site' perspective. My use case is much more simple.

  • load custom data against polygons eg census areas into BA
  • create infographic against that data in BA
  • put infographic in Exb via BA widget
  • Load Map with same areas in Exb
  • Link the two by ID
  •  user can select an feature on the map and the infographic instantly updates, important: it doesn't run a report process

currently the tool always wants to go away and run a process against a site op a buffer etc, but it isn't necessary in this case, the data is there as an attribute. If this was available you would be able to make killer BI applications in ExB

Hello @PaulBiggWither

Thanks for your feedback.

The key functionality you are requesting is already available in ExB. You just need to enable action trigger on the map and configure the BA widget as follows:

Then, whenever you select a feature from the map, the attributes of that feature will be shown in the custom infographics. Please note that the custom infographics must be created in BA web app first by using the web map layer attributes. You can learn more about this here: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-business-analyst-blog/best-practices-when-sharing-and-running/b...

By design, this process requires running the infographic report through our geoenrichment servers to format the report and process the data. Although the variables are only coming from web map attributes, the report has to go through the same process.

I encourage you to explore the several ExB samples we published under + Create new > ArcGIS Online > Business Analyst

I hope this helps!

Hi Fasil,

thank you for your response - I did discover this function but felt that the performance was unnecessarily slow since the attributes are so readily available and could be improved, see attached video. Could you also let me know  if there are any credit implications in this path, that seems unclear, I would hope not since rendering a chart from user data should not incur credit usage?

also worth noting that 64bit integers don't seem to work in BA

@PaulBiggWither I recommend exploring the chart widget instead as that might work better for your use case. The performance will be much better and there will be no credit usage.

When running infographics using the BA widget, the performance will be different as the process takes time to go through our geoenrichment servers. And regardless of the data source in the infographic, there will be credit consumptions as documented when running/exporting infographics:

With regards to the 64bit integers not working in BA apps, thanks for reporting. We will investigate and fix it.

Best regards,

Fasil
