What do I provide to Editor.Add(featuretypeid) if my feature layer has no FeatureType

My feature layer has no subtypes. So its LayerInfo.FeatureTypes collection is empty. If I want to use the Editor.Add command, what featuretype parameter value do I provide?

ahh - an empty string seems to work.
