Usage question of ESRI's GeometyService

I noticed in the ConvexHull sample that a GeometryService was instantiated using this url "http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer".
Is this just for illustrative purposes of the sample or is this something I can also consume?
