How to check if Geoprocessing service

We have created Geo processing service with set of tools and consuming in a sliverlight application. I want to programmatically find whether GP service is up and running ?. Is there any specific way?. Current whenever particular tool is failed, on failure event am giving message. I want to know whether service itself up and running . please throw some light on this

Thank for your information. Even though service is available, whether it is up or running? . How to find that using code?.  Can you point me some elegant solution?.

You can look at SDK samples in this section: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/samples/start.htm#MessageInABottle. There is a Failed event that you can subscribe to. If the Geoprocessor.Url is incorrect or service is not available, Failed event will be raised.
