I've downloaded the Silverlight beta 2 and attempted to install on Vista Ultimate 64.  When running the exe I get the following error:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running.  Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program...."

I've checked all over the place and I can't find anywhere what system requirements there are for Silverlight Beta SDK 2.0.  Is it 32 bit only?  Will this change when it is released?

Installs fine in Win7 x64. Did you try installing using elevated permissions? (I remember having to pull lots of tricks to install stuff on Vista.)

nope, I run as administrator and I still get the same error.
Silverlight 4, VS 2010, Toolkit, expression blend 4 is all installed and running fine.
It's only ArcGISSilverlightWPF20_beta2.exe that is throwing this error.

The setup.exe itself is 32bit, but the dll's it lays down can be used with both x86 and x64 applications.

Hi Morten,

Does this mean that the installer will or will not work on 64 bit operating systems?  Because I've tried everything in the book, running as administrator, checking off compatibility in the properties in the .exe file, running under another user account, running a system scan, and this will not install on Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

It doesn't event TRY to install, you run the exe and it throws that error.

The last time I ran into that error was a program I built that I had neglected to compile installers for both 32 and 64 bit OS's, it seems to me something is wrong with the installer.

A 64bit OS can run both 32 and 64 bit apps, so it should work (i'm running 64bit myself and haven't seen an issue). In fact Silverlight 4, VS 2010, Toolkit and Expression Blend 4 that you already installed are also 32bit apps.

Hi Morten,

I've tried installing it on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and it works fine.
I've never had an issue installing anything on this Vista machine, I'm curious if anyone else is running it on Vista.  It could be a problem with my machine, or that it's specifically a vista installation issue.

Same issue here on XP 64 bit SP2:
The image file C:\Documents and Settings\cooperc\Desktop\ArcGISSilverlightWPF12.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine.
Is this exe 16-bit?? Lots of Googling on this error is telling me that it may be. ESRI? Anyone have any ideas for workarounds on this?

I got this error yesterday when I downloaded the .exe with FireFox. Then someone advised me to download it with IE. That did the trick for me.

Dan, you da man! I had originally downloaded via Chrome (how dare I do such a thing?), switching to the evil that is IE worked. This is a new one for me. Thanks.
