There is no out-of-the-box support for the shapefiles in the ArcGIS SL API. Nevertheless there is a sample of shapefile reader here : http://esrislcontrib.codeplex.com/ (but the shapefiles can't be modified, so the sample would have to be extended) Another option is you to publish your data with ArcGIS server.
