"Write permissions for the ArcSDE data are required if you plan on editing the data. Note: When using OS authentication, these permissions must be granted to the ArcGISSOC user."

What does this statement mean? I am confused.

I think when using OS authentcation for SDE,  publish data as ArcGIS server service, you need to add  SOC account  to your SDE database, and grant edit permission to .

Please see the link: Using OS authentication
http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisserver/9.3/java/index.htm#preparing_resources.htm

For me, I don't  add SOC account to SDE, I create a database user account specially for publishing data to services  while others are OS accounts.

What do you mean by the "publishing data to services" part?  We haven't added SOC to SDE server either, which is a different server than the one our ArcGIS Server exists on.  We have a user account on SDE that is allowed to edit specific layers from ArcGIS Server services.  Is that is what you have?

I, like Jitendrudu, don't understand how the "write permissions" impact the use of Feature Services.  I'm having trouble seeing attachments in our web applications.  I just get the red "x" in the empty image box.  The image name exists in the database table and REST services endpoint, but I can't get it to appear online.  Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!
