I believe I mostly have the whole pdf creation process figured out now, with a boatload of thanks to posts and tips to folks too numerous to mention.
What I don't have a good handle on is arriving at the actual layout of the various elements I want on my page. It appears that everyone is using millimeters as their page units, so I am wondering what methods you are using to position the page elements. Is it mostly trial and error or are you approaching it more methodically?
I have not been using a canvas element. I took the advice of Robert Scheitlin in one of the posts on this site and am simply using the map element directly.
I can do the trial and error 'thing' but I know that my users will start asking me to create new map layouts or tweak the layout for various reasons, so I would like to find an efficient method of working everything out.
