For any code gallery item, you can always use the "Comments" section of that item.  Often asking the question on the forum can be better as more people might be able to help (or have the same question).

For the Closest Facility Widget, there was also a blog entry - http://blogs.esri.com/esri/apl/2010/11/08/a-pair-of-new-flexviewer-2-1-widgets/ - where you could also submit a question.

Will the current Flex 2.5 APPs continue to work with ArcGIS Server 10.1?

Yes, any Flex API applications (from 1.0) will continue to work with ArcGIS 10.1 (as well as any other ArcGIS Server since 9.3).
