As part of Esri’s ongoing commitment to delivering accessible software, we want to help content authors better understand how assistive technologies work and what accessibility guidelines are within their control.

To achieve this goal, the Centralized Accessibility Team—with support from the Documentation Team—has published an accessibility documentation site to supplement product-specific accessibility documentation. This site provides general education around accessibility concepts, how to enable operating system level capabilities, and content configuration best practices that can be applied across the full suite of Esri technologies.

The site is structured into five core areas:

  • Content: outlines how best to write and structure information
  • Data visualization: covers what options are available to support accessibility while crafting maps
  • Theme: introduces color vision deficiencies and how to validate color contrast requirements

We hope to expand this site in the future to include suggestions for making other types of visualizations accessible, such as infographics, charts, and graphs. But in the meantime, if there are any other general accessibility topics you'd like to see covered, please contact us at EsriAccessibility@esri.com.
