I went to Google 3d warehouse and took a bunch of buildings (30 of them) located in my city. I inspected every model in Sketchup for incorrectly oriented faces and other unwanted properties. Then I exported each to collada. I created a multipatch feature where I imported these models. Every model had to be repositioned which was pretty easy to do, but I have one major problem. My buildings keep losing their textures and if I refresh the layer the textures appear, but then some other building (not in the view when refresh was executed) loses its textures. I just can't seem to have all buildings to show their textures at the same time without refreshing the layer all the time. I'm running Desktop 10 SP3 and ArcGIS Explorer 1750 (both display the same problem).
I attached two images to display the problem (image.jpg) and after refresh (Image_after_refresh.jpg).
I also have it all packed (geodatabase + Globe project) it this .zip file if anyone has time to look. Download (9.5MB)
You might want to check out the Rendering options under the Layer Properties > Globe Display tab. In addition, there are some settings for texture downscaling under the Advanced options.
Also keep in mind that Google 3D Warehouse models can??t be used in other GIS packages (3D Warehouse EULA, paragraph 11.4). Check out this blog for an alternate solution: FormFonts 3D
I know something is wrong with my data just not exactly sure what. ArcGlobe display settings are just fine, because 3D Virtual City: Philadelphia posted in the 3D GIS Template Gallery works without a problem!
