Hi everyone,

I'm getting started in ArcGIS, with the 10.1 version. I'm now doing an elevation model in ArcScene and I would like to add a ship to my model. Altought I've the symbology of ships in 3D, I'm not being able to swap the point of my layer to the symbol I want, all because the software isn't recognising my symbology (which has 3DS extension).

Is any one able to help me?

Thank you!

The .3ds data would be imported into a file geodatabase as a multipatch with the Import 3d Files tool or added as a model to a multipatch feature class.  I am not sure if you are trying to symbolize another multipatch?  I am not sure how that would work, since most multipatches are textured not 'symbolized' in the classic sense. I would think you would be better off symbolizing the .3ds file in 3d Max or other program and then import it rather than try to import the symbology texture from one multipatch to another.

Are you sure your file is a valid .3ds model? Perhaps try to download another model and try that to narrow down if it's a problem with your workflow or your ship model.
