Dear all,

I am somewhat aware of the concept behind how Lidar data is structured and then published to ArcGIS Server as Image Service but am not sure how does it look like other than the 2D image service we get from it. Can anyone share your experience regarding the web/online 3D visualization capability of ArcGIS to render the point cloud with associated back-dropped panoramic images? And if someone is able to do it then what other products/licenses would one need to accomplish it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Mohammed,

In currently released product, the only way to use LiDAR in this manner in 3D is as a surface.

However...

In our next series of releases, we will be rolling out the ability to stream point clouds to desktop and web clients using a new layer type added into the I3S specification.  Initially, this capability will include the ability to change renderers, identify points, and use multiple services in the same scene.  Eventually we will look at editing attributes and using point cloud scene layers as input to GP tools.

Watch the Esri blogs for more information on this later this year,

Chris

Dear Chris,

Thanks for the reply and it answers the question in explaining the current ArcGIS software capability for Lidar data visualization in 3D on the web.
