Allow the users to create sub-folders of more than just one level in "My Content"
It's especially confusing where you may have a test and production version of the same app, so you end up with folders called AppX - Test, AppX - Prod, AppY - Test, AppY - Prod, ect.
This is so important to get into not only AGOL but of course also the Portal.. Additionaly it should be possible not only in your content but also in Groups.
I'm amazed this hasn't been implemented yet. This idea is now well over 10 years old. I've added my kudos but given the length of time I suspect it may never be coming.
Is there an update on this? I have seen several other posts regarding subfolders but I think this is the original, or close to it. This one was submitted 12 years ago and would be extremely helpful in organizing content in both AGOL and Portal.
I did see a forum where too many folders bogs down the response time when loading content on these sites, but I would take slower load time for more organization capabilities!

No real update, but my organization asked about this and it turned out that there was never any formal enhancement request submitted for it, so we did one.

I almost guarantee that there has been an enhancement logged. They have just been closed with "Not in product plan", and this one probably will be as well. When I asked an ESRI software engineer about this at the ESRI UC a few years back, their response was that due to the way the back end of AGOL/Portal works, it isn't feasible for them to implement multiple folder levels. They have allegedly looked into it due to the popularity of the request, but do not believe it is technically feasible to implement.
@AlfredBaldenweck - Perfect, I will inquire on our agencies behalf as well and maybe this will get more attention...finger's crossed! Hoping to go to the UC this upcoming year to ask.
@MDB_GIS - That seems strange that they wouldn't be able to do this since there are other cloud based software that has this ability already, and have map features. Laserfiche (records management software) comes to mind. Hoping to get to go to the UC this upcoming year so we can ask.
@MDB_GIS idk. a search of the support website for enhancements containing the word "folder" doesn't show anything. Of course, it doesn't show my enhancement either since it was just submitted and hasn't been "published" yet. For such a popular request, I'd imagine they would make it pretty easy to find if an enhancement had already been filed. (Also generally support does a literature review prior to submitting the request, so they should have turned something up).
@MeganMerkley_IDFG Yeah, my guess, given that folders don't matter for like, addresses (you can move an item to a bunch of different folders and not break any links), is that the folders are a cosmetic thing. If I were designing it, I'd have everything in a table or list and then have a field/column with the folder name and generate the folders based on how many backslashes there are in the folder name. It would be nice if that were the case, but alas I do not know what's actually going on back there lol.
Well, it got closed as "will not be addressed".
I would like to see what the average Esri employee's content page looks like and how they manage it.
Yep. I knew it would. I would like that too. I've looked all over for a "model AGOL/portal" example and have yet to find anything useful.
Users in my organization create groups but don't invite other users to the group, so that the group can function like a folder to keep their items organized. It would be great to have the option to have folders to keep items organized instead of creating groups to provide that basic necessity.
Still hoping this will show up as an option in future releases
