Autopopulation with numbers and text

Hello all,

I'm trying to create a survey in Survey123 Connect that autopopulates a value with both text as well as a number.

How I would like the survey to work is to take a subset of points in section 1a. When in section 1a, I would like the first point to render as 1a01, the next as 1a02, and so on and so forth. In addition, the data needs to be exported to a csv file. Originally, I created a note that would display the section and then used the position(..) to show the correct number, which worked fantastically in the survey itself. However, the autopopulated section did not export to the csv file at all.

I'm fairly new to Survey123, so I'm sure I'm missing something. I've tried playing around with the formula "selected-at(${point_name}, position(..))", but that doesn't show any values at all (potentially because I'm confusing the system with trying to have both a text value and a calculated numerical value).

Anybody have any thoughts?

You can use the concat() function to combine those two separate field.

concat(${field1}, ${field2})

start there since you have the pieces already. You can also try combining the calculations from those two fields to not have extra fields

something like:

concat (${point_name}, position(..))

assuming ${point_name} is inside the repeat.

You could also attach the relevant parts of your xlsx, might be easier to determine your exact setup

Notes don't get submitted to the database, I think they do if you name them but could be wrong. Change the notes field to a text field and make it readonly if you want to use/see that calculation later. If you don't want the user to see the field you can make it a "hidden" appearance

I think Neal has hit it on the head here. I was going to guess that you were using a Note field. Use a calculate or text type field and set them as "hidden" under appearance so users don't see them.

Use Note fields for interim calculations where you don't want to save those bits of data and the final output that merges them should be calculate or text.

I have tried converting it to a text field, but when I do that, only the position count is shown, and the "1a" value. My current solution is to have to separate fields, but is it possible to combine them so both the "1a" remain as well as the increasing position count? For clarification, again, I would like it to count 1a01, 1a02, 1a03, etc. and currently I can only show one or the other in the fields, and not both combined together.
