Hi. I also had a problem with this Monitor Forest Change over Time ESRI tutorial when I got to step 3 in the 'Show a pixel's change over time' section... within the Chart Properties, it would not let me make a selection for the Change detection method (which should be LandTrendr in tutorial). Attaching a screenshot: Wondering how to fix this....?

Hi everyone, I'm hoping there is an easy fix to my Survey/Dashboard conundrum. I always create a 'welcome to GIS 101 class' simple survey in Survey123 and then later display the results in Dashboard. However, this time something happened where the map point data from the respondents has disappeared from the stakeholder version of the survey, and so is of course not coming through to the web map or the Dashboard, along with any of the other regular question data. Here are some snips - Showing that indeed, there are points from the survey when I view from within the Survey123 app: Showing that the web map pulling from this stakeholder layer is empty (same result as when I open stakeholder layer in AGOL): And the Dashboard also empty: This is all puzzling, because the Dashboard was working when I set it up (after some results were already submitted). Also, earlier, one student alerted me that she could only see her own results in Dashboard, so I changed the setting in the Survey123 app on the Sharing Results tab to allow for students to see all results (snip is from original setting), but I don't see a change in the above, bigger, problem: Ideas on what I should do to fix the stakeholder version of the survey, and hence the webmap+Dashboard or should I just start over and make a new webmap and Dashboard? Thanks, Sarah

Hi. I recently gave my students a 'welcome to class' survey using Survey123, which included 2 maps - one where they made a point, the other where they made a line. Now that I'm generating a Dashboard from their survey results, I can't seem to find the second map with the lines....when I go to make a webmap from the stakeholder version of the survey, there is seemingly no way for me to select the second map - it just defaults to the first (point) map. All the fields for my other questions are there to select from, but not the map elements. Is this a known issue with Survey123/Dashboard, or is there a workflow I'm needing to learn? Part of the survey showing the 2 maps: Thanks! Sarah Blake, GIS Instructor, Skagit Valley College Mount Vernon, WA, USA

Hi. So, yes the .gdb and the .mdb in this ESRI training module both exist in "C:\EsriTraining\MapScripting" folder...The "r" and extra "\" were not needed per the training module directions (I only has student add that later in effort to get code to work) - if look at my (not student) script in snip above, the code is the way the instructions were written in module (but didn't work for student). The student copied/pasted the code from the Esri training directions originally, so I still wonder if the error codes have something to do with a different version of Python being referred to....this student (like I do too) has more than one version of Python installed, since Pro uses different version than ArcMap. So maybe the question is how to make sure ArcMap is pulling from the correct one? Thanks.

Thanks for the ideas, Dan and 2Quiker. I should've posted a snip of my version, what it should look like: I had my student add the 'r' thinking that would help with the path, but it didn't work either way.

Hi. I'm a GIS Instructor at a community college, trying to incorporate more Python into my curriculum. I've assigned my students the ESRI course, "Python Scripting for Map Automation" for desktop, but one student is having repeated error messages in the second course exercise - see snip below: I'm wondering if there is an issue related to where the Python program 'lives' on the student's computer, and that's why changing the workspace gives errors? Thanks if anyone has ideas on what I can advise the student to try. Sarah

What about the scenario of my college students want to copy their final-project StoryMap over to a personal ESRI account they may create after graduation in order to retain access to their work, to show potential employers or other schools? This solution would not seem to work in this scenario as personal accounts don't offer apps like StoryMap, correct? I'm trying to convert the work format for my GIS Certificate students' final project from an old-style word or .pdf doc to something more portable like StoryMaps, but the 'portability' factor doesn't seem to be there yet.... -Sarah Blake, GIS Instructor, Skagit Valley College, Mount Vernon, WA

Aah - I realize now that my 3 photos with orientation problems were originally portrait, so thanks DBlake for the workaround - just did that edit/crop/rotate and replaced that version of the photos in StoryMap - seemed to work (for now!).

I also am experiencing this same problem - My StoryMap (from March 2021), which has portrait and landscape photos, was fine until recently - now 3 of my landscape-oriented pictures are rotated 90 degrees to the right...

Aah - I may be answering my own question...I didn't realize there is a separate 'Refresh' button in the Catalog tab, Organize group...I had been using the 'Refresh' when in the map view. I just tested the process doing another export to my project.gdb, then the correct 'Refresh' and there it was! SB

As a college GIS instructor, I am learning ArcGIS Pro, so I can teach my students in the near future, and utilizing the "Mastering ArcGIS Pro" textbook by Maribeth Price. In the chapter 5 tutorial, I'm finding that my exported feature classes (I've either done a 'select by attributes' or a 'clip' first) are not showing up in the Catalog view, within the project geodatabase that they are in. The layers show up fine within the map, and I have tried 'refresh' and 'save' and even tinkering with the indexing options (earlier had issues with thumbnails not appearing), but to no avail. Only closing the program and then re-opening it seems to work in order to then see the newest feature classes I've added to my .gdb. A glitch? Or some setting I'm missing? Thanks, Sarah

Hi. I saw an older post about this exact same problem, though the solution offered (an error in the path) does not seem to be the problem, or at least I can't see what is the problem after over an hour on this specific part of Exercise 3 in the 'Python for Everyone' course. Here is my screenshot from PyCharm showing my code and the error message: OK, that seems pretty small so here is my code again: Assign variables to the shapefiles park = "Parks_sd.shp" school = "Schools_sd.shp" sewer = "Sewer_Main_sd.shp" #Create a list of shapefile variables shapeList = [park, school, sewer] #Create and open new text file for updated shapefile path = r"C:\EsriTraining\PythEveryone\CreatingScripts\SanDiegoUpd.txt" file = open(path, 'w') #Update the names of the shapefiles in shapefile list for shp in shapeList: print(shp) shp = shp.replace("sd", "SD") print(shp) file.write(shp + "\n") file.close() and here is the error message at the bottom: "C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\envs\arcgispro-py3\python.exe" C:/EsriTraining/PythEveryone/PythEveryone/CreatingScripts/SanDiegoShapefiles.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:/EsriTraining/PythEveryone/PythEveryone/CreatingScripts/SanDiegoShapefiles.py", line 11, in <module> file = open(path, 'w') FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\EsriTraining\\PythEveryone\\CreatingScripts\\SanDiegoUpd.txt' Process finished with exit code 1 I think my problem (based on my error message, and the older post about this) is the path. The ESRI module says it should say: path = r"C:\EsriTraining\PythEveryone\CreatingScripts\SanDiegoUpd.txt" When I went into my File explorer and checked to see if the Path was valid, is seemed to be, though there was no SanDiegoUpd text file there (I assume because the script failed and didn't create this file). There was an empty such text file in the "Solutions" folder (instead of in "Creating Scripts" folder) so I later copied and pasted that into CreatingScripts, thinking that perhaps the text file had to exist to start with, but same result of error message above. Not sure what I am doing wrong?? Thanks, Sarah

Hi, thanks Manish and Dan. I just figured out my error...I had changed the name of my layer in the TOC from the shapefile name, so apparently Field Calculator doesn't like that. I changed the name of my layer in the TOC to match the shapefile name and Field Calculator worked beautifully. Thanks again! -Sarah
