Today we spoke with Esri Customer Service, got quick, clear and simple answers to our questions, then followed their simple instructions to accomplish everything. Payment for a Single Use license and annual maintenance for ArcGIS for Desktop automatically includes an ArcGIS Online organization account/subscription. We thought that was the case, but only needed to confirm it. No additional purchase is necessary to get started from the beginning. Of course, adding tokens, etc., requires additional purchases. Upon request by the ArcGIS for Desktop licensee, Customer Service will send an email providing a webpage link to follow and an activation code to enter for the new ArcGIS Online organization account/subscription. When the linked webpage is reached, the licensee enters the activation code and there choses whether they want to create a new organization account or convert an existing public account to an organization account. If the choice taken is to convert an existing public account to an organization account, then the licensee simply logs on using the same user name and password they used for the public account, and the public account is automatically converted to an organization account, and all their old public account information is automatically transferred over to the organization account. This worked like a charm for us.

Can an ArcGIS Online public account be converted to an organization account? (The first and last name used to create the public account is actually the name of the organization.) If not, can an existing ArcGIS Online public account be deleted so that its name, email address and other credentials can be used to create an ArcGIS Online organization account?

Well, we're not "struggling." But Esri has its own, private language we in our organization refer to as "Esri double-speak." It's a language seemingly created by people who spend their days going to meetings where they sit around all day doing nothing more than fabricating new, unnecessarily-complicated, undefined words and phrases to substitute for good technical writing. It's a language not spoken anywhere else in the world outside of Esriland. We didn't see anything in the examples that indicated you were working in Beta. Perhaps it is there and we just missed it.

The question, stated in a different way, was whether we (being a company, an organization), having already paid for a ArcGIS for Desktop Single Use license and also being current on maintenance: 1) would have to make a separate, additional purchase (regardless of the cost or level of the purchase) for an (organization) ArcGIS Online account in order to use Collector; or 2) by virtue of our already paid-for ArcGIS for Desktop Single Use license and maintenance, would be able to create and use an (organization) ArcGIS Online account without additional initial subscription to us. We're just trying to learn whether the right to use an (organization) ArcGIS Online account and Collector are covered by what we have already purchased (for at least one user), or whether we have to buy something else. If the answer is Yes, we have to buy something else, then we'll look further into those details. One thing that makes it confusing is that when we sign in to our Esri organization account online, and then we go to ArcGIS Online, we're already signed in to ArcGIS Online. And our Esri customer number appears to be linked to ArcGIS Online, too. Tech support has this morning provided us with a bit of explanation and some linked pages to read and is available for us to inquire further with them. It just takes a bit of time to get to it all.

We've loaded Collector 18.0.3 on a Motorola G6 Play smart phone. We followed Kylie's December, 2018 instructions for "Try Collector for ArcGIS" but found that far from all of steps and options and buttons that she used in working with the sample maps were available. For example, in following the steps she set out in working with the Park map, we found no option in Collector to take a photo of the picnic table. In another example, one with instructions on collecting data offline, hardly any of the buttons steps outlined in the example were available to us. So, what are we missing?

This is a question about ArcGIS Online pricing and use of the Collector App for customers who already have an ArcGIS for Desktop Single Use license and are current on maintenance. We thought that our purchase of the ArcGIS for Desktop Single Use license would allow us to use the Collector app in conjunction with ArcGIS online. But now we are finding that when we try to log on to the collector app, we are not able to log on to the Collector app, we are not able to sign in and are getting the error message, "Public accounts are not supported." Were we mistaken, and are we actually going to have to purchase a separate subscription to ArcGIS Online? We'll be asking this of our account representative, too, but thought we'd ask here, too. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
