With the most recent iOS Collector update, deeplinks to GoodReader are now working. They are also working in iOS Explorer app.

Hi Doug, Sorry to jump in. We use gropen:// to open files stored in the GoodReader application as mentioned in original post. Our county, as well as other organizations that deeplink to GoodReader, would greatly appreciate having this scheme supported by Explorer/Collector. Thanks, Brad

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide... (I'm not sure of software versions of each, but) Before updating to the latest iOS, 10.2.1, and the latest Collector for ArcGIS, 10.4.2, Collector was capable of opening another app's URL to a file located in another app. Now it appears that cannot happen in Collector. What has changed? Or am I missing something? The URL link works when it is pasted into the Notes app or the Explorer app. In our case, we use the GoodReader app as file storage for pdf’s of parcel appraisal fieldcards. GoodReader has the ability for other apps to open pdf’s inside GoodReader, when you click the link (from their website: use Link button to copy a special URL link of a single selected file to clipboard. This URL link will have a special prefix gropen:// and will contain a full internal path to a selected file inside GoodReader's file storage. Any other iOS app that is capable of opening URL links (for example, todo-type or notebook-type app) can use this URL link to automatically launch GoodReader and open a file being linked. For example, you can create a "Read this book" todo task in a todo application and associate an URL link with this task in such a way that tapping this URL link in that other application will launch GoodReader and open this file of interest. If you invoke the Link action with several selected files, several URL links separated by line-breaks will be copied to clipboard.). The Explorer for ArcGIS app appears to still allow the hyperlinking to the GoodReader app files, but not Collector. The attached screenshots should help indicate the linking issue. Note that a 'http' link will work, but not a link to another app. We need the local URL link (GoodReader) solution to work in a disconnected environment. Again, thanks for any information you can provide. Thank you, Brad

It looks like hyperlinks will work with Collector on iPads now. Since the latest update, using the GoodReader app, our crews have been able to utilize the hyperlinks that they could only use through the Explorer for ArcGIS app.

I have a similar situation going on while using iPads in our county Assessor's office. We are viewing parcels in the Collector app on the iPads and I have been receiving many complaints about the parcel features not all displaying, even at levels of about a square mile. I realize that a limited number of features will draw when zoomed way out, but when zoomed way in, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how the features are drawing. It makes it very confusing for non-technical users. Can someone help explain why this happens? So far, my "solution" is to zoom in closer, and pan the map around to get it to refresh, so it shows the features they need. Thanks, Brad

I have consistently had this issue with Collector (iOS). I still can't seem to find a solution. Thankfully the one map that gets used in Collector doesn't need to be updated often. However, during the times I am making changes, I can't get the map to update. Numerous sign out/in attempts, and ending the app does nothing. My experience has been that after a random period of time, it updates. I just tried pulling down to refresh after adding a new layer to my map. Layer shows up in Explorer app (always updates after a sign out/in), but not Collector. I don't have the iPad in front of me, but I know it does not have the very latest software update on it. Not sure if that matters.

We use iPads because of the hyperlink ability with Explorer and pdf's in the GoodReader app. I can say from my experience, trying to get non-technical people to jump between different apps is a difficult concept to grasp. user: Why does one map do this function and the other a different function? Why can't the good map (Explorer) edit the attribute? I would love to see some simple editing features added to Explorer ASAP. For us, capabilities such as adding gps point or a simple attribute is all we need. And unfortunately, because the user has to switch from Explorer to Collector, they actually do not even peform a simple attribute edit from 'n' to 'Y'. Which is all it takes to track their progress. As a GIS person, it seems like a simple process, but it isn't for them.

Thanks Mark. My guess is that some of the people that were used to the old forums site, haven't quite migrated yet.

With the new geonet site, are there other locations on this site where people are discussing the Explorer App? I am just curious, because it seems the discussion in this location seems slow and uninvolved. I am still learning where discussions are taking place and want to know I am in the right spot. Thanks!

Thanks for the follow up. Do you know if there is a way to change the Geocoding Service to a custom one that uses my data?

Hi, I am using an iPad with the Explorer app and have a question about the initial popup that displays some feature information, but then displays a line with address, city, state underneath. (see attached image) Where is that address information being pulled from? It is not correct and I do not want it to display in the popup. The people using this will be very confused. Is there a way to change it so it doesn't display the wrong address information? or display feature attribute information I want it to? Thanks, Brad

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to use a different camera app while collecting photos in the Collector app, on an iPad? I'm not finding much, other than iOS won't let stuff like that happen. Ideally, I would click the camera icon, click add, and it would give me the option of which camera app to choose. There are other apps that can put copyright, time/date stamps, etc, on a photo, that could be very helpful. Curious to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks, Brad
