Has there been a recent change in behaviour with ArcGIS Online when publishing a feature layer in ArcMap that has a definition query applied to it? I could have sworn that a few months ago when I published a layer with a query that it just ignored the query and published all the data anyway. This ties up with the help page About hosted web layers—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS Which states: Be aware that definition queries you apply to layers in ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro are only applied when querying, not when the data is published. All data is published and uploaded to ArcGIS Online. If you want only a subset of the data to be published to and stored in ArcGIS Online, you must export the subset of the data to another feature class and publish that. However I have tried uploading layers with definition queries in the last couple of weeks and it now seems to honour the definition query and only upload the filtered records. Is it just the case that the documentation is out of date? I had wondered if it was to do with the version of ArcGIS Desktop but I get the same result in both 10.1 and 10.3.1. Regards Gareth

Hi Rob, From one London to another, did you ever get a response from ESRI on this? I've got the exact same situation using a polygon index layer and specified rotation/scale fields. If I turn it back to automatic zoom it seems to be centred okay, but that kind of defeats the object! It's almost as if it is doing things in an incorrect order - working out the extent, then applying rotation, then applying zoom - or something, but is very odd. Thanks Gareth Greater London Authority, UK

Hi Ravi, Thanks for the response, I think that has made it clearer in my mind. Think I was getting myself confused about the various user accounts and another server which didn't have security enabled on it. Best regards Gareth

Hi all, I'm trying to access the ArcGIS Server REST API at http://myserver:8399/arcgis/rest/login but am having problems logging in. We're at version 9.3.1 of the Java edition, running on Windows 2003. I can do the following ok: 1. Log in to ArcGIS manager with arcgismanager account at http://myserver:8099/arcgismanager/main/login.jsf 2. Log in to ArcGIS REST API Admin page with the arcgismanager account at http://myserver:8399/arcgis/rest/admin/login 3. Log in to ArcGIS Server REST API with a generic user account created in ArcGIS Manager under Security > Users The problem is that when I log in as the generic user I can only see services listed that have been explicitly secured and made available to that user (as you would expect). I had assumed that I should be able to log in to the REST API with the same administrator account that I log into manager or REST API Admin with and see ALL the services but the log in page keeps throwing up an invalid username/password message. I have a separate instance of ArcGIS Server installed for which security hasn't been enabled and I can log into the REST API page using the admin account and can see everything. Am I right in thinking that once security is enabled the only users who can access the REST API services directory are ones who've been set up in manager? I'm slightly confused by the fact I can log into the REST API Admin page but not the REST API itself using the same account details. Thanks in advance for any help received. Gareth
