Can't Use Date as Split By Field in Dashboard Serial Chart?

Question

I've created a serial chart in a dashboard and am using date as my category field to show a count of points over multiple years. I would like the chart to be a multiseries chart in which each year has a different line color but date is not an option in the Split by Field section (see attached image). I've read the documentation on using features instead of grouped values and found this ideas thread but I don't think this is possible with my data (or I'm still missing something). I appreciate any input

Thanks. I started down that road with Arcade data expressions to create a new year split by field. Somehow, I can't find mine either.

Hi @GBacon, I don't know if it is helpful but I believe I managed to do something similar by splitting the date into the year and the date but I can't find it anymore unfortunately. I think the date portion would then need to have all the same year with the date.
