How is Portal used in your organizations?

We are a local government and we have several departments that have and use ArcGIS Server for business purposes. The ITS department manages the "Enterprise" data and servers for intranet/internet use and the desktop installations. Several departments are wanting to install Portal and I just wanted to know how others are managing their Portal installs and use.
