Add "Apply" Button to Color Editor

It would be very helpful to have an "Apply" button the color editor so when you're using the color sliders to adjust the color and opacity you don't have to click "OK" and close out of the editor to see if the changes applied are what you want. Currently, if the changes aren't as expected, you have to click back through the color editor to make changes and that isn't good for an efficient workflow.

Would it help if the color editor settings were "exposed" in the symbology pane, or even included as an extension of the color selection box, instead of being a second window you have to click into? I think it's really having to click into and out of the color editor over and over that gets me, and if you could eliminate that click, that would save me a lot of time.

Here's an idea that asks to pull the transparency out of the color editor box:

And this one wants to pull the HEX code out of the color editor box:

And if you can do those two, why not just bring all the settings along for the ride?

Thanks for the quick reply, and for explaining the technical side of how the Color Editor works and why redraw times are an issue. It's really helpful to get that context.

I actually already use my Favorites and several custom style palettes heavily in my day-to-day work, but this workaround doesn't fully resolve the issue. When I'm designing a map, I'm constantly making tiny, on-the-fly tweaks—like shifting the saturation or transparency by just 2% or 3% to see how it sits against the layers next to it.

If I had to save every single experiment as a temporary "Favorite" just to test it out, my color palettes would get cluttered with dozens of nearly identical swatches in no time. It also makes a fluid, creative process feel pretty repetitive and clunky.

If a global "Apply" button in the Color Editor itself is too tough to build because of the pane-locking issue, is there any way the Color Editor could hold onto the changes until we hit the "Apply" button on the main Symbology/Element pane?

The color editor is accessed from many places throughout the application. This makes it challenging to include an Apply button that would be functional and relevant in all cases.From the context of your idea, I think you are referring mainly to the case where you are changing the colors of symbols in a map or scene?

Color is a property of components of a symbol. So the color editor is raised from different parts of the symbol pane at different times. Adding a dynamic Apply to it would effectively disable the symbology pane while the color was being applied. For large or detailed maps and scenes, this redraw can take some time.

A workaround that will help in this situation is save a few candidate colors to your Favorites style. Then, you can choose them from the color palette on the Symbology pane (without entering the Color Editor at all), and trial different colors using the Apply button (or auto-apply capability) on the Symbology pane.
