How do i get my DEM to look like this?

Hello,

I've been looking at some DEM's produced using UAV technolology and aerial imagery processing software.

Some of the DEM's have a really nice colour ramp. See links:

I have been trying to reproduce something similar within ArcGIS using a DEM and a hillshade layer set to 50% transparency.

However I can't seem to find a similar colour ramp. Could anyone help or provide some advice?

Are you setting the hillshade layer to 50% transparency or the DEM?

I've found this blog entry now that explains how to retain high fidelity.

However I'd still like to find or create a similar colour ramp to that shown.

Ken I've been setting the hillshade to 50%. I've tried it also with the DEM. Both seem to give the same result.

Here's a quick example.

I set the transparency of the DEM layer to 50% and kept the transparency of the Hillshade layer at 100%. You can play around with the different color ramps for the DEM and edit them to create precisely the colors you'd like. Take a look at this and this help topics

Thanks Ken but that's not quite what I wanted.

The colours lose fidelity when you use that method and look washed out.

I've been playing around with the method outlined int eh blogg and am getting some better results with that.

Hello just in-case anyone comes across this in the future I found the colour ramp that I wanted was a HSV shader available in Global Mapper.

In ArcGIS, you can use colorramp Elevation #1 from Layer Properties - > Symbology tab on your DEM and then use the technique I mentioned in the blog: Combining colored and grayshade rasters with high fidelity | ArcGIS Blog
