We utilize ArcGIS Diagrammer to maintain all of our GDB designs. After upgrading to 10.3, we can't open ArcGIS Diagrammer. An update supporting 10.3 would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Michael Gayheart, thank you for your question relating to ArcGIS Diagrammer. Unfortunately the current version for 10.2 will be final release of Diagrammer. The reason for this is because Diagrammer uses a third party charting library that is no longer available. A 10.3 release of Diagrammer would require significant reengineering to support a new charting library.
If you require the capabilities of Diagrammer for future work then you may want to consider maintaining a computer with ArcGIS Desktop 10.2. Also, if certain capabilities are not available in 10.3 then I would suggest submit these features to the ArcGIS Ideas site for consideration in future release of ArcGIS.

It is still possible to run the ArcGIS Diagrammer, even with ArcGIS 10.6.:
Warning! This is not a new version, still the old Diagrammer. Some new geoadatbase features, like editor tracking and new annotations from Pro are not supported. You can export the created xml and import into a new geodatabase, however you won’t be able to open a newly exported workspace document xml in the Diagrammer. So now it is a one way tool. The Diagrammer uses workspace document xml version 9.2, the 2.3 Pro uses 10.7. so there is no way going back. But it is still OK for me.
The paths may vary depending on your installations and ArcGIS version. The solution is not working with ArcGIS Pro, you need to have an ArcGIS for Desktop ArcMap installed.
This solution is not perfect just a workaround–use at your own risk.

but i need to do some updates to visio ?
Since Diagrammer work only with 10.2 so is X ray software give the same capabilities if i needed it with ArcGIS 10.3
for preparing diagram for GDB ?
Just to clarify something to avoid confusion, the ArcGIS Diagrammer and the Geodatabase Diagrammer are two different tools.
This thread was discussing about the ArcGIS Diagrammer, which was last released for ArcGIS 10.2.x.
ArcGIS Diagrammer
In order to get the ArcGIS Diagrammer 10.3 to work in a Windows 10 environment, ArcMap 10.5, using Microsoft Visio Professional 2013
Make the following modifications in Microsoft Visio Trust Center:
Open Microsoft Visio, Click the "File" tab.
Click "Options"
Click "Trust Center"
Click "Trust Center Settings"
Click "File Block Settings"
Uncheck the "Open" option for the following:
"Visio 2003-2010 Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils"
"Visio 200 - 2002 Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils"
"Visio 5.0 or earlier Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils"
Click "OK" until you can close.
ArcGIS Geodatabase Diagrammer for 10X

Follow the publish directions that you download with the tool.
Now run the Geodatabase Diagrammer for 10X from ArcCatalog (Version 10.5) (again).

Hi Marius: You can find the 10.2.2 SDK download on my.esri.com (go to the "My Organization" tab, then Downloads) that install should have the required DLLs for Diagrammer.
Hi Guys. I'd like to use Diagrammer in ArcGIS 10.3.1. I've read thorugh the workaround here, but I cannot find ArcGIS Runtime SDK for .NET Version 10.2.2 anywhere (or the required DLL's). Can anyone point me to the right direction? Cheers!

Yes, we were aware that Crainiate's ERM Diagram, the technology used by ArcGIS Diagrammer, went open source a few years ago. While open diagram appears almost identical to ERM Diagram it is lacking some or all layout classes. But more importantly, open diagram is no longer maintained or supported.
Just prior to last year's user conference, Jack Dangermond made the following comment with respect to Esri's support for CASE tools:
ArcGIS will continue to support CASE tools through the ArcGIS 10.3 release. However, CASE tools may not be shipped with future releases of ArcGIS that follow 10.3. For users interested in geodatabase design with UML, we recommend using Sparx Systems’ Enterprise Architect as it offers many advantages over the CASE tools functionality.UC Q&A | 2014 Esri User Conference

being able to document and diagram a geodatabase is a pretty important part of a Geodatabase design and administration work flow. What are ESRI's plans to support that in light of the retirement of the diagrammer tool?

We confirmed that we have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed on the machine running Windows 7 and ArcGIS v10.2.2. The machine also has Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 installed. It still encounters the same error though when we try to run the program

I downgraded one of our systems back to ArcGIS v 10.2 from v10.3 in hopes of being able to use Diagrammer again and it throws the same error still of Microsoft.Net Framework. Unhandled exception error has occurred in your application. The type initializer for "ESRI.ArcGIS.DiagrammerEnvironment" threw an exception. Telling it to continue anyways opens a blank windows. Is there a way to correct this so we can use Diagrammer again?
Richie Carmichael, I don't recall seeing any comments or documentation about Diagrammer being retired at 10.2. Did I miss it somewhere?
