Symbology by SQL

As well as Categories and Quantaties etc it would be good if you could define a symbology class by SQL. So, for example, if you have three fields any or all of which can contain a unique value for a field, you could create a symbology class that would show if a record has a value in all three fields, the first field only, the second and third fields etc. Especially if ArcGIS server then supported the functionality.
