Can't start ARCSde Service(esri_sde) 10.1

Question

I have installed ArcSDE 10.1 on Windows Server 2008. When I try to start it I get the message : The ArcSde Service(esri_sde)service on Local Computer started and them stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do.

If you haven't already looked at this ArcGIS Help 10.1 troubleshooting page, that might give you a clue.  I remember seeing this error on our install in the past (SQL, not Oracle).  If you do a browser set, as Vince mentioned, there are many posts and many causes.  If the troubleshooting doc or other posts don't help, I would recommend calling this in to support.

There's probably several hundred posts on this topic, and there might be a hundred different solutions.  You'll need to provide a lot more information about the exact releases of all software, the exact configuration details, the exact commands used to create the service, and detailed information on how the geodatabase was configured before we can give more than RTFM-like assistance.
