Enterprise 11.3 Datastore content recovery - is it possible

Hello,

As the title questions, is it possible to restore data out of a corrupted Enterprise 11.3 DataStore postgresSQL database?

We had a host drop so ended up in a really odd corruption situation that esri support said needed to have a reinstall to recover. System had stopped writing any logs back in May or responding to the :2443 port yet was still operational so we could not use the logs to recover newer activity.

I have the old databases but need to get to the data to avoid redoing several hundred hours of data reentry if anyone has some thoughts they can share.

Was the DB itself corrupt? Or was the ArcGIS Data Store application (and how it interacts with the PG DB) corrupt?

At the end of the day, it's just a PG DB. If the DB is still intact, you can just plug it into PGAdmin or any other application that can read PG DBs and be able to access the data.

Hi @SW-TomHomanGISS, do you have any data store backups? By default, the Data Store creates a backup every 4 days at the following location \arcgisdatastore\backup\relational\dbbackup.

I have successfully copied data out of a corrupted ArcGIS Datastore PostgreSQL database and imported it to a fgdb then republished the data to a new Datastore.

The key for me was that I had recorded all of the ArcGIS Datastore account credentials in a password vault. Without those accounts, I'm not sure you would be able to get much of anything out of the Datastore.

Do you have snapshots of the datastore VM. or WebGISDR backups? you could also try to restore just the pg data from those.

Thanks all for your thoughts and helpful considerations. Let me see if I can find a summary of answers.

Corruption - corruption came at the Datastore application. The most obvious example was that port 2443 was no longer responding to requests yet we were able to create new hosted feature services. I do have all the account credentials from installation and were populating data via EB apps.

Datastore Backups - The automated db backups stopped back in May.

WebGISDR - had not been run.

PG Database - waiting for one of the IT dba's to mount into his instance of PGA. Time to take ownership back.

Tom,

You should work with Technical Support to determine whether or not it can be recovered in the data store application.

If not, ryanuthoff is also correct, the underlying technology is PostgreSQL so any PostgreSQL-compatible client (like ArcGIS Pro) can connect to the database and extract any needed data. You'll just need to whitelist the machine as documented by PostgreSQL: https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/auth-pg-hba-conf.html
