The July 2026 release of ArcGIS Urban is now available and introduces several new capabilities to help planners better understand existing conditions, compare redevelopment scenarios, and evaluate the impacts of proposed changes.
Understand today's city before planning tomorrow's
Many redevelopment projects start with a simple question: What is actually there today?
To help answer that question, ArcGIS Urban now includes a new Convert Existing Buildings tool. Existing buildings can be automatically split into floor spaces based on building height, attribute information, or manual floor counts. The generated floor spaces can be assigned space-use types and included directly in metrics calculations.
This makes it easier to establish a reliable baseline for existing conditions and compare it against future development scenarios. See our updated "Using Existing Conditions in ArcGIS Urban" blog post to learn more about this functionality.
Analyze scenarios with more flexibility
The new Metric Filters capability allows metrics to be filtered by development status and space-use type. This enables planners to focus on specific aspects of a scenario, such as residential space, commercial floor area, or the development status.
Filter settings can also be used directly within dashboard charts, making it easier to communicate planning outcomes and compare different planning approaches.
Create interactive scenario comparison reports
The previous spreadsheet export workflow has been replaced by a new Scenario Comparison Report.
The report includes interactive pivot tables, customizable charts, and improved support for updating data as scenarios evolve. These enhancements make it easier to evaluate alternatives and share results with project teams, decision-makers, and stakeholders.

Evaluate sunlight impacts
This release introduces Sunlight Analysis for plans and projects.
Planners can now assess sunlight exposure and better understand how proposed developments influence surrounding buildings and public spaces.
With this release, analysis configurations can now also be copied between plans, projects, and urban models, helping maintain consistency across planning efforts.

Other improvements included in this release are:
- Improved template selection experience when creating urban models
- Introduction of ArcGIS Urban's first regional template for Norway
- Improved support for sharing and visualizing 3D models in exported web scenes
- New Last Edited and Edited By information for selected content and layers
