Using the Append tool on a hosted feature layer with "Optimize performance for feature services" enabled causes ArcGIS Pro to crash

Question

I have a hosted feature layer with around 9,000 features in ArcGIS Portal and a feature class in ArcGIS Pro also with around 9,000 features. I want to use the Append tool to append the features from my feature class to my hosted feature layer. However, when I run the tool with "Optimize performance for feature services" enabled, the tool will always crash ArcGIS Pro. When I disable "Optimize performance for feature services", the tool works just fine. I have tried with and without a field map, but the results are the same as above.

Appending without the optimized performance takes forever, so I'm hoping to be able to use optimized performance. Does anyone know what could be causing this issue?

HI @MariaDube - I see you submitted a Esri Support Services request recently on this item.  In reviewing the case, the analyst was not able to reproduce the issue you're experiencing.  It may (or may not) be related but I would try a Perform an ArcGIS pro Soft Reset as you recently updated to ArcGIS Pro 3.7.  This "might" resolve the issue.

I’ve recently upgraded to ArcGIS Pro 3.7 and am experiencing the same issue. When I run the Append tool with “Optimize performance for feature services” enabled, ArcGIS Pro crashes immediately. However, if I run the tool without this option selected, the process completes successfully.

The layer I’m working with contains over 100,000 features, so enabling performance optimization is important for my workflow.

What release of ArcGIS Pro are you using?  There is BUG-000176430 - "Appending features from a file geodatabase to a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online fails if the 'Preserve Global IDs' checkbox is checked in ArcGIS Pro 3.4.3."

This issue has been addressed in ArcGIS Pro 3.5. The 'Optimize performance for feature services' parameter for compatible feature services preserves the input Global ID values from file geodatabases when the 'Matching Fields for Update' parameter is set to the GlobalID fields.
