To confirm: geopoint record does not update when a survey is reopened from Inbox

Hello all,

Here is the scenario:

I have a survey with a repeat section. Based on the location when the survey is first created, a field (lets say Field A) appears in the repeat section prompting the user to enter a value. While the first repeat record is entered on-site, the subsequent repeat records for this survey would be completed from locations different from the original. I would like Field A to appear every time a user adds another repeat record.

I want to confirm that the survey would not update the location every time a new repeat record is added. Instead the original location values from when the survey was created would make Field A appear every time. 

This is what Esri says: Geopoint questions contained within surveys that are launched from Inbox, Drafts, or Outbox will not automatically update to the device's current location.

I'm assuming that you have:

• Parent layer with location
• Repeat with 'Field A' and other questions
• A desire to collect a new survey with location, then use the inbox to continue to add repeats without modifying the data collected in the parent layer (location) as part of the first submission

No, opening this record in the inbox would not by default modify existing values in the parent layer and you can continue to collect repeats.

However, users could modify the data, and some calculation modes (always) can re-trigger.

I'd recommend exploring:

• Repeat section configurations (allow updates = false, limit counts). Can prevent users from seeing or editing prior repeats
• Setting read only modes to parent survey questions you do not want to change, such as location. You can do this using pulldata functions on edit modes. See here for an example.
