Web Adaptor properties file on 10.1 (unix version)

After installing the webadaptor on 10.1 (unix) I have tried to configure it. I get an error that says "Unable to register the GIS Server with the Web Adaptor". Also, there is an error in tomcat saying it was unable to open the web_adaptor.properties file. Where should that file be and what should be in it? Thanks.

Are you able to get to your server via port 6080 from you web server in a browser?

Also, I have a Windows Java install, and I cannot find web_adaptor.properties. Do you know the general path to this file? Thanks-

Yes, I can get to the server using port 6080.

I think the properties file would be in the tomcat webapps directory tree somewhere. There are other properties files in there. I was thinking that the Web Adaptor install should create it or copy it but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Yes, I just tried again. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the Web Adaptor.

The Web Adaptor is 10.1 SP1. I think the ArcGIS Server is also. The software authorization page shows the software version as 10.1.1.

So there is a reverse way to do this. Try to navigate to http://<myserver>:6080/arcgis/admin and navigate to
Home > system > webadaptors. From there, try to register the web adaptor. Please see if you get a different error. You can try turning on verbose or Debug level logging and include any errors you might find.

When I go to the http://myserver:6080/arcgis/admin page and navigate to the webadaptors page it shows that the webadaptor is registered. So apparently it did it even though I got the error. Maybe I'll try a few things there and see if I can figure out what is going on.

While the server believes the web adaptor is registered the web adaptor side does not.

If I go to http://myserver:8080/arcgis/webadaptor I get the page to configure the web adaptor and at the bottom it says "Status: No GIS servers are registered with your Web Adaptor".

Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to disconnect the web adaptor from the admin or manager page, and try to register again. Thank you very much-

Can you confirm you followed these steps:

Unregistered from the admin/manager endpoint
registered using the web adaptor configuration page (not the admin/manager page)

I never got the linux adaptor to work. You can install a windows web adaptor and point it at the linux server and that works without any problems.

The issue is most likely permissions. It seems that the config cannot update itself for whatever reason. Does your ArcGIS Install user have rights to the directory housing the web adaptor war file? Thanks-

same problem here, even after giving 777 to the /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/arcgis directory.
Honestly I have to test this for my company, but I start to be really fad up with this installer process that is totally linux unfriendly.
