Upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1 to 11.3

Question

Hi all,

I've been reading documentation and posts in the community preparing for this upgrade from 11.1 to 11.3. I'll take any advice you have as I'm just starting to create the plan.

My current question is about server RAM. I replied to a post from 2020, which almost answers my question, here https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-questions/how-much-server-do-i-need-for-enterprise/td-p/283576

but I'll repost now so my question is a new post.

I'm reviewing the system requirements. I am using a single machine production environment and so therefore I have ArcGIS Server, Portal, 2 web adaptors, and 2 data stores (not used at the moment) installed on the 4 Core one machine. Would that make my RAM requirement be 8+8+8+8+8 = 40 GB?

We have the machine at a much lower RAM level right now but I was wondering about the minimum recommended?

It sounds like going to a multi-machine deployment is recommended and I can tackle that in the future.

Thank you for the response! We have a much smaller daily usage. We have 23 referenced (not hosted) map services (a few are public but most are shared with groups), 79 portal users (some use it a lot, some don't use it), and ArcGIS Server stats say our Total Requests for the last 30 days maximum was 12,170 for a 24 hour period.

We have 4 cores and 4 processors and currently our server has 18 GB RAM. I see that at 11.3 Esri docs for installing Enterprise Builder is 16 GB of RAM but the 11.4 doc recommends at least 32 GB! (I didn't use Enterprise Builder but since that's a one machine set-up I was using that as an idea).

I appreciate your response and I can use that as a guide also.

The decision on what to place into a single deployment server has a few deciding factors into what would be effective for this upgrade.

I currently have a multi-machine setup, with 4 additional machines (DataStore, Portal, Workflow Manager, Notebook) and a single Server, this server currently has 32GB of RAM, but we have around 200 users daily, with hundreds of hosted feature layers, dozens of maps, and constant field map usage. If your daily usage is similar, I would recommend 32GB+ of RAM, but you should also consider the CPU allowances too.

I would recommend 32GB or more of RAM and at LEAST 2 cores and 4 processors, I currently have 4 cores 16 processors and it has been running perfectly. A single deployment will probably need more than normal, as it has a lot more processing to do on one single motherboard. I would say that my comment on the RAM and CPU requirement would work well.
