2019 Map Gallery Interview: Ilona Zhuravleva and Anya Komarova, Greenpeace Russia

Anna & Ilona have been working together on Conservation GIS at Greenpeace Russia since 2005 when Ilona joined Greenpeace in to help set up a new global GIS support program.  Anna had been volunteering at Greenpeace since 2003, before entering Moscow State University, where she obtained her PhD in 2017 and organized GIS education in the Dept of Plant Ecology.  Ilona had been an ecologist even before university, winning the Tver Regional Ecology Competition in 1999.   Together Anna & Ilona have been important figures in the growth of conservation GIS in Russia and around the world.  They have helped make the SCGIS Russia Chapter one of the most successful in the world, organizing many national conferences and conservation GIS training activities.
