All I want to do is to use the ArcPro Catalog View in the same way that I used the Catalog window in ArcMap. Under my Favorites tab I added two folders both of which have subfolders with shapefiles and geodatabases in them. However, Pro refuses to allow any browsing beyond the folder item I added. My issue is somewhat analogous to this question: ArcGIS Pro does not recognize a folder but should be simpler. According to this page: Project favorites—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop it should provide me access to all the subfolders and items in the Favorite folders. What am I missing here?
Mike,
Is there a way to refresh your view? Click the hamburger at the top right and hit refresh:
Yes, I have refreshed multiple times and even restarted my computer... to no avail.
PRO 2.1
Folders don't open with me either.
Perhaps they aren't designed like the Catalog view, The favorites seems to place a focus on adding things to new projects etc etc and not do the the catalog thing, because you have catalog.. my guess anyway
If this functionality is not available it would be a huge regression in the UI... arcmap allows the user access to the entire ArcCatalog via the side pane... now in Pro that's essentially removed? What's the new workflow? How does this streamline anything?
I "think" the functionality you desire is to select "Add to New Project" on the folder in Favorites (right click). Then, on each new project, the folder (and the functionality you desire) will be present. I agree, this is not intuitive.
Ok, I get it but please correct me if I'm wrong: using the Catalog view, when I connect to a folder in one project, this connection does not persist in another project.
Agreed Pro is not a clone but Esri is phasing out Arcmap support in favor of Pro so shouldn't the same or improved workflows be a requisite?
From favorites your options are
You just can't navigate in the folders within Favorites... that is the purpose of catalog
Thank you, Thomas. The folders are appearing as Favorites in New Projects even before I selected the "Add to New Project" option. However, I'm still unable to access their contents.
see my picture above and comment... Add to new projectS in otherwords, only use the favorites when you want to add to All new projects or just one.
If you want to see what is in a folder, Go to catalog
Thanks again, Dan. I'm just not understanding the distinction here then... Shouldn't the Catalog Pane have the functionalities as catalog? All I want is to be able to quickly access folders with commonly used shapefiles and geodatabases from the side catalog pane in order to drag and drop them into new maps.
Many of us have the same question " Shouldn't the Catalog Pane have the functionalities as catalog?" ....Be sure to vote up on https://community.esri.com/ideas/12671-add-stand-alone-data-catalog-to-arcgis-pro-like-arccatalog
In pictures and my preference is for the last view
And the best for last... the whole thing, tree, maps, tools folder geodatabases, access to portal, favorites, history... and it is in a tabbed view (look way at the bottom, so you can access geoprocessing tools and Whatever 'Pane' you decide to open, it can all be docked there
Thanks, Dan. That helps to clarify but this still does not make my folder connections persist to new projects, correct?
Yes.. Add to ALL new projects is done from the Favorites pane (previous message link)
Panes are such a Pain, said Payne (a person with a deceiving smile , urban dictionary )
OK, got it now... I was mistakenly referring back to already existing projects instead of loading up a new test project. They are now persisting and giving me the direct access functionality I was looking for. Thanks for your patience.
I have the same problem with my portal content. When i want open one folder from my portal content I can`t. It look empty". Also sometimes i do not see my layers in databases (from 25 layers i see just 3 etc.)
Refreshing do not help.
Maybe someone knows why?
I have a similar issue, except that it is in both the Catalog Pane and Catalog View. When browsing a directory, I can see my file geodatabase. This file geodatabase is new and contains 1 feature class which contains 3 features. While browsing in the Catalog View or the Project tab of the Catalog Pane, I get an error when I try to expand the geodatabase to explore its contents. The error is: "The parameter is incorrect".
When I add the same folder to the Favorites tab in the pane and then browse to the geodatabase within it, it expands just fine and I can view the contents. The feature class can be added to the map through drag and drop or through Add Data. While in the map, the feature class displays and labels just fine. So it doesn't seem to be a corrupt database.
So why does expanding the geodatabase to browse its contents only work in the Favorites tab of the Catalog Pane and in the Add Data window?
Note: Pro Version 2.4.2
